My IMAX Experience

Last weekend, It was of my first experience of IMAX @ Arizona mills theater which has a 80ft elliptical digital screen. IMAX (for Image Maximum) is a film projection system that has the capacity to display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film display systems. A standard IMAX screen is 22 m wide and 16 m high (72.6 x 52.8 ft), but can be larger.

The first movie was James Cameron, Academy Award® winning director, who combined his talent and his passions of aliens and space in his 3D film ALIENS OF THE DEEP. Cameron takes audiences to the bottom of the ocean to encounter some of the strangest life forms on Earth, while inviting us to imagine what future explorers may someday find on other planets. ALIENS OF THE DEEP presents the highlights of more than 40 dives made to the Mid-Ocean Ridge, a submerged chain of mountains that winds 46,000 miles around the globe and contains mineral-rich volcanic vents with names like Lost City and Snake Pit. These vents spew constant clouds of super-heated water, made dark as smoke by substances sent up from deep beneath the earth’s crust. It was a interesting documentary to watch. Heard that this guy is also shooting some ghost movie in IMAX 3D.

Coming out of the theater and after having coffee we all were discussing about WILDLIFE SAHARA which is another 3D movie screened in the same IMAX. My Movie database had another update on the same day and same evening when we rushed inside the theater leaving the ticket front desk guy with full 360 smile.

First time Wild life Documentary is filmed in three dimensions in African regions. With Ranger Liesl Eichenberger, zoologist as a guide, Wild Safari 3D takes the viewer along for a three thousand-mile ride in an open air vehicle on a game drive through nature reserves of Africa on a quest to see the Big Five, the most dangerous and spectacular animals on the continent. It was a real good 3D experience for 45 minutes.Yes, the only minus point was the duration of the movie as it ends abruptly.
