EBay of Google - GoogleBase !!

Google Base was tested by google last week. it's much-rumored auction service that many people believe is meant to compete against auction sites like ebay or CraigsList. I personally think it would be difficult for google to replace both of these sites, as they have pretty much became house hold names. I don't think impressive ajax enabled gmail was able to compete with its core competitior yahoo mail and no wonder it is still in its beta service.

anyway...all the best for google base ! Why they named that way ? I never knew...

Pachai Kiligal...

I was navigating through all the songs randomlyin CD man. stopped at 'indian' folder. Let me listen to my fac song and btw, what a fantastic movie it was ?

I remember watching that movie along with my friend on Madhi Teatre, Aarapalayam, Madurai on 2nd week. Shankar is known for his handling society problem in a sophisticated way.Rahman always does tremendous job for him and this film was not an exception. vairumuthu to recent compositions of p.vijay (boys) have always spun out beautiful lyrics.

"Pachai Kiligal" is one of the quintessence of any music. Just thinking abt its picturisation. At this point where this song starts in the movie, Speedy screenplay requires the director to show his audiences the 'covalent' bonding between his story -HERO family members ( indian thaatha kamal, suganya, junior kamal and kasthuri) in a single song within 3 mintues of limited time. This tiny sequence is very important in movie as hero looses his one and only lovable daughter. Magical 3 minutes song leaves a strong reason behind indian thaatha vengeance.

Coming back to the music of the song...
It starts with the good "Thandaanaanae" humming, it picks up further tempo and tune with Yesudas seemingly pouring honey from his voice.

"Chinnanjeero Kutukulae Sorgam irukku - Indha
Chinna Chinna anbeel thaane Jeevan Innum irukku"

Intermittent female voices hum with saarang rajasthani instrumental mix takes the listener to heaven. "Aanamdam" is the key word used here by my all time fav vairamuthu, who says

"Un Kaneel Peerar alludhaal Kaneerum Aanamdam Aanamdam".

Sir, Eppadee ungalaala matuum ippadee ezhudha mudeeyudhu ?

Sleuths Crack Tracking Code Discovered in Color

[ via an email fw ]

It sounds like a conspiracy theory, but it isn't. The
pages coming out of your color printer may contain
hidden information that could be used to track you
down if you ever cross the U.S. government.

Last year, an article in PC World magazine pointed out
that printouts from many color laser printers
contained yellow dots scattered across the page,
viewable only with a special kind of flashlight. The
article quoted a senior researcher at Xerox Corp. as
saying the dots contain information useful to
law-enforcement authorities, a secret digital "license
tag" for tracking down criminals.

The content of the coded information was supposed to
be a secret, available only to agencies looking for
counterfeiters who use color printers.

Now, the secret is out.

Yesterday, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a San
Francisco consumer privacy group, said it had cracked
the code used in a widely used line of Xerox printers,
an invisible bar code of sorts that contains the
serial number of the printer as well as the date and
time a document was printed.

With the Xerox printers, the information appears as a
pattern of yellow dots, each only a millimeter wide
and visible only with a magnifying glass and a blue
light.

The EFF said it has identified similar coding on pages
printed from nearly every major printer manufacturer,
including Hewlett-Packard Co., though its team has so
far cracked the codes for only one type of Xerox
printer.

The U.S. Secret Service acknowledged yesterday that
the markings, which are not visible to the human eye,
are there, but it played down the use for invading
privacy.

"It's strictly a countermeasure to prevent illegal
activity specific to counterfeiting," agency spokesman
Eric Zahren said. "It's to protect our currency and to
protect people's hard-earned money."

It's unclear whether the yellow-dot codes have ever
been used to make an arrest. And no one would say how
long the codes have been in use. But Seth Schoen, the
EFF technologist who led the organization's research,
said he had seen the coding on documents produced by
printers that were at least 10 years old.

"It seems like someone in the government has managed
to have a lot of influence in printing technology," he
said.

Xerox spokesman Bill McKee confirmed the existence of
the hidden codes, but he said the company was simply
assisting an agency that asked for help. McKee said
the program was part of a cooperation with government
agencies, competing manufacturers and a "consortium of
banks," but would not provide further details. HP said
in a statement that it is involved in
anti-counterfeiting measures and supports the
cooperation between the printer industry and those who
are working to reduce counterfeiting.

Schoen said that the existence of the encoded
information could be a threat to people who live in
repressive governments or those who have a legitimate
need for privacy. It reminds him, he said, of a
program the Soviet Union once had in place to record
sample typewriter printouts in hopes of tracking the
origins of underground, self-published literature.

"It's disturbing that something on this scale, with so
many privacy implications, happened with such a tiny
amount of publicity," Schoen said.

And it's not as if the information is encrypted in a
highly secure fashion, Schoen said. The EFF spent
months collecting samples from printers around the
world and then handed them off to an intern, who came
back with the results in about a week.

"We were able to break this code very rapidly," Schoen
said.

Majaa - Music review

Vidhyasagar's "Majaa" has once again given super hit songs like dhool and ghilli. The lovely duet of S.Mahadevan, Harini, Viji, Savitha "Chee Chee Chee Enna Pazha" is a soft melody with romantic humming while "Thaimasam Oora Kuddu" is standard beat & mass song sung by S.Mahadevan and Anuradha Parasuram. Mangal Pandey fame "Kailash kaer" has sung a touching sad song "Podhumada Sami" which sounds like a typical IR sad song with rajasthani folk touch but its good.

Madhu B's dazzling voice is a mix of Yesudas and Unni Menon. Already he has sung "Konja Naeram" in Chandramukhi. this time he has joined Sadhana Sargam in another duet "Sollitharava". The track ends with "Hey Pangali" by Udit (Vidhyasagar's fav singer), Tippu and Manicka Vinayagam which sounded like "Vaepamaram" of Saamy. This song is also a fusion of western and punjabi.
Overall Majaa is better than Srikanth Deva's Sivakasi. Sure Majaa is gonna be a treat for diwali.

Laws of Projects and Teams

[from one of my friend]

Law 1 : The good looking babes always join the other projects.

Law 2 a : Your project is always an ALL - MALE team.

COROLLARY

Law 2 b: The female joining your project is always not that much good looking.

Law 3 : A Good looking girl joins that project which already has the maximum number of good looking girls.

Law 4 : Do not make the mistake of calling any girl in your project bad looking; because if and when the new girls joins, you start

repenting your previous statement, start calling the previous one good looking, your tension increases and you lose your sleep and hair.

Law 5 : Bad looking girls do not come singly; they come in pairs.

Law 6 : And in the remote case that a good looking girl does join your project the following scenarios are likely:

She is married
She is engaged
She has a boyfriend [applies to lot of cases]

Law 7 : Do not think that you are the most frustrated person in the project; there is always some one more frustrated than you. ekaraiku akarai pachai !

Yeh jo desh hai thera !

Yeh jo desh hai tera,
swades hai tera,
tujhe hai pukara,
ye woh bandhan hai jo tooth nahin sakta

Hats off to Javed Akhtar for his simple and beautiful lyrics.
Petal soft singing which oozes with patriotism, rahman's soulful voice has made this song never get off my mind for the past 1 year. shehnai notes in this song is by wizard Ustad Bismillah Khan and is accompanied by equally good tabla by Laxmi Narayan. When rahman voice turns for

Yun toh saare sukh hai barse
Par door tu hai apne gharse

the song touches its peak melody. gosh ! it's again the one and only rahman.
